HOW WE TRANSLATED
THE PARYSOW YIZKOR BOOK

At Hasmonean High School for girls, each volunteer received a chapter of five to ten pages: a survivor's story.

A student-led Google Classroom facilitated collaboration and document distribution.

The translators made use of their German and Hebrew abilities, learned some Yiddish themselves, and supported their translations with online resources and dictionaries.

Together, they compiled lists of common translation obstacles, and how to surmount them.

Most importantly, they reached out to their Yiddish-speaking relatives and elders for help, uncovering stories of their own.
